Description
Volume 3 of the Philippine Forest Blooms* Planner now takes us somewhere new: ultramafic forests, where soils rich in minerals such as chromium and nickel somehow support some of the most rare and often critically endangered plants in the country.
This volume was inspired by Dr. Edwino Fernando and Dr. Marilyn Quimado’s research in “Ultramafic Flora of the Philippines”Β and made possible with the guidance of Diane Estephanie Bagui and Schenley Anne Belmonte of Forest Foundation Philippines.
The undated planner features 12 native ultramafic species, one for every month of the year, each carefully illustrated and scientifically reviewed. A portion of proceeds will go to Liberty Womenβs Association (Loreto, Dinagat) to support their work in protecting and conserving the forest and natural resources of Dinagat Islands.
Background: Since 2018, I have been collaborating with Forest Foundation Philippines to help bring attention to Philippine native plants and their importance in forest conservation through a medium I know best ~ art. This work has grown into an ongoing advocacy through the #DrawNativeTreesPh and #ForestBloomsPh initiatives.Β
This planner was published partially using funds generated from previous #ForestBloomsPh product sales, continuing a cycle where each volume helps fund the next. Forest Foundation Philippines does not earn from the sale of these products.
